RAFA NADAL AND LUIS DEL OLMO RECEIVE THEIR APPOINTMENTS AS NEW HONOR PATTERNS OF THE TITANIC FOUNDATION.

The event took place at the “Rafa Nadal Academy” in Manacor, and Enrique López Veiga, President of the Vigo Port Authority, acted as a witness.

At the suggestion of Rafa Nadal, the international exhibition “TITANIC THE RECONSTRUCTION”, which these days can be visited in Murcia, as a tribute to Richard Norris, a young American tennis player, who was traveling in the Titanic, will incorporate his story to those told in the sample.

Murcia, Spain, 11.12.19. In 2012, when the first centenary of the Titranic tragedy was completed, the Foundation that bears his name decided to create an Honor Board formed by personalities, from all over the world, who, in addition to having a direct relationship with history of the Titanic, were, in their behavior, faithful to the legend that presides life on board the “ship of dreams”: HONOR AND GLORY ABOVE TIME ”.

The new Patrons of Honor, Rafa Nadal and Luís del Olmo, received, from the President of the Titanic Foundation, Jesús Ferreiro, in the central hall of the “Rafa Nadal Museum Xperience” the corresponding plates accrediting their titles as Patrons of Honor, acting as witness Enrique López Veiga, President of the Port Authority of Vigo and also Patron of Honor.

In this way, the names of Rafa Nadal and Luís del Olmo, join, to be part of the Board of Trustees, those of S.M. The Queen of England and Northern Ireland, Elisabeth II; Former President of the French Republic,
Francois Hollande; Former President of the USA from North America, Barack

Obama; Princess Elettra Marconi, daughter of Guillermo Marconi; Clive
Palmer; Vicente Zaragüeta; Ernesto Páramo; Enrique López Veiga and José López Cortés.

Rafa Nadal, upon receiving his appointment as Patron of Honor of the Titanic Foundation, recalled the heroic behavior of Richard Norris, a young American tennis player, first-class passenger, who was, until the last moments, helping to board the lifeboats to the women and children, staying on board until the water flooded the high decks.

When there were no more lifeboats left, the young tennis player threw himself into the sea, clinging to a life raft he had overturned, so he remained, almost six hours, with half a body submerged in the icy waters, until he was rescued by the Carpathia.

When they arrived in New York and he was taken to the Hospital of Sant Louis, the doctors advised him, given the seriousness of the injuries caused by the low temperature of the sea, and in order to save his life, the amputation of his legs.

Richard Norris refused to have his legs amputated and, miraculously, four months later, he won the US Championship, in 1912, returning to win in 1914, 1916. 1925 and 1926. In 1920 he won the Wimbledon Tournament and in 1914, 1925 and 1926 the Davis Cup was awarded.

Rafa Nadal suggested to Jesus Ferreiro, that, the exemplary story of this young American tennis player, should be part of the international exhibition "Titanic The Reconstruction", the only official exhibition of the Titanic Foundation, which these days can be visited at the Mall Thader, in Murcia, to which the president of the Titanic Foundation promised his inclusion in visit to the exhibition.

For his part, Luís del Olmo, upon receiving his appointment, said:

““ I am very grateful to my friend of so many radio adventures, Jesús Ferreiro, for choosing me as the new Patron of Honor of the Titanic Foundation. Thanks that is multiplied by a thousand because today is also named Honor Patron to the best athlete we have in Spain, Rafa -two-

Nadal, the biggest among the greats ...

In this endearing act I want to remember Guillermo Marconi, inventor of
the radio, and her daughter, my good friend Princess Elettra Marconi, who
It is also part of this illustrious Patronato …… ..

His father, Guillermo Marconi, personally directed the installation of the radio transmission equipment of the Titanic, which allowed distress calls and the rescue of the 712 survivors ……… But today I do not wish to forget the exemplary behavior of the telegraph radiographer Jack Phillips, that, with only 25 years, he lost his life in the wreck because he remained transmitting the distress calls until the water flooded the transmission cabin…. ”
Both Rafa Nadal and Luis del Olmo, promised to try to be exemplary in endorsing the phrase that presided over the picture of the great Titanic staircase: HONOR AND GLORY ABOVE TIME, and collaborate on one of the Foundation's main missions, fight for the conservation of the environment, especially for the cleanliness of the seas.
