The House passed Democrats’ sweeping social spending bill Friday morning, a major step forward for a centerpiece of President Joe Biden’s domestic agenda.
All but one Democrat voted for the $1.7 trillion package of tax, health care and climate initiatives, which amounts to the most significant restructuring of the safety net in decades. All Republicans voted against the bill.
The legislation now moves to the Senate, where it will likely be pared back in size and not considered until next month at the earliest.
